Getting ready...

for surgery. I'm such a planner. I love to make lists. I love to color code my calendar. I'm kinda weird that way. ;)  My husband...not so much a detail person actually likes it. Well, for the next few weeks, most of the color will belong to him on our calendar. He will be the one taking the kids to their various activities and he will be doing the shopping, cooking and cleaning too. He's pretty excited! Or not! Actually, I haven't asked him.

I am having a hysterectomy. The plan is to have a Laproscopically Assisted Vaginal Hysterectomy. I'll be in the hospital for 2 or 3 days. When I went to the doctor for my pre-op the first thing the nurse said to me was, "are you excited?". Hmmm...excited is not exactly the thoughts I was having, but I guess I could go with that. I mean...not that I'm excited about the surgery but there will be a few good things about the time after. I thought I'd come up with a list.
  1. I get to eat my meals in bed while I'm in the hospital.
  2. Hospital food has gotten better over the years.
  3. I will have a chauffeur for the next few weeks.
  4. I may buy myself a bell. :)
  5. I get to spend the month of July home with my kids.
  6. I get to take my kids to the pool any time I want.
  7. I don't have to cook for a while.
  8. I will probably lose a few ounces of weight after they take it out! ;)
  9. I don't have to clean for an even longer time! SWEET!
  10. No more periods! Even SWEETER!
  11. More time to rest.
  12. More time to catch up on blogging, scrapbooking and card making!
  13. Quality time with my husband.
  14. I will have LOTS of God time!
Ok...so some things to be excited about. I'll just focus on that list. I'm blessed to have a wonderful husband who is very loving and helpful. Remember last year when he even shaved my legs for me? :) We will get to spend more one-on-one time together too as our kids will be at the cabin with their grandparents.  And I have the most amazing friends and family so I know that I will be in great hands.

I guess what I would like to ask would be for your prayers. Specifically, that the surgery will go as planned and the doctor will not have to do a full abdominal incision. I am at peace with this decision and know that I am in ultimately God's hands. He already knows exactly what will happen. He has great plans for me.

Psalm 28:7 The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.

Trusting in God today and always,

  1. I've been there Christine! The end result is pretty cool but getting there is not so much fun. I'll be praying for the doctors hands as they perform the surgery. I'll also be praying for an easy recovery for you and that you will be able to enjoy the time off. My favorite part is going to sleep! Hugs!! Gina

  4. Love your list! What a positive way to look at things! I hope you are feeling well enough in the hospital to enjoy the down time! Just order everything on the menu and enjoy eating in bed! I haven't been in the hospital since having a baby and then I was always nervous about the baby! This time for you you can just eat and sleep and not worry about a baby eating and sleeping! Praying for you!!! ~Kimberly
